SING group is now part of the Galicia Sur Health Research Institute (IISGS)

On March 2018, the SING Research Group officially joined the Galicia Sur Health Research Institute (IISGS), conforming the Cross-cutting Area – Clinical Decision Support Systems.

The IISGS, created in 2008 after a cooperation agreement was signed between the Ministry of Health, the Galician Healthcare Service and the University of Vigo, has configured itself as a space for multidisciplinary research in Biomedicine based in the Álvaro Cunqueiro Hospital in Vigo which brings together the clinical research groups from the Health Areas in the South of Galicia (Vigo, Ourense and Pontevedra) and the biotech groups of the University of Vigo. Its primary objective is to promote translational research and innovation, and thus ensure the effective application of research results in order to improve the health of its citizens.

This way, the SING Research Group makes a significant breakthrough in its biomedical orientation, just two years after joining the Biomedical Research Center (CINBIO).

12 years developing Bioinformatics apps

The SING research group has been developed many Bioinformatics applications since the last 12 years. Here you can find a timeline summarizing some of the most successful ones!

PrePubMed: a PubMed for preprints

Preprints are becoming a common way to share and communicate research results that have not been peer reviewed yet. The importance of this alternative to the traditional publishing timing is getting attention by all relevant stakeholders of research. A sign of this is the fact that some organisms are announcing that they will accept preprints in grant applications or the fact that a preprint recently became the final paper.

Given this, PrePubMed was born, a PubMed for preprints as its own creator claims, to index preprints from arXiv q-bio, PeerJ Preprints, bioRxiv, F1000Research, preprints.org, The Winnower, Nature Precedings, and Wellcome Open Research.

If you are curious or want to know more about preprints, here you have Ten simple rules for considering preprints.
